Tour Overview
One day in Jaipur is a great way to experience this colorful city with a good itinerary. Start your Jaipur City Tour package with Amer Fort, visit Jal Mahal on your way back, visit City Palace and Jantar Mantar, admire Hawa Mahal, and end your sightseeing tour in the traditional markets of the Pink City. This is because Amer Fort is about 11 km from central Jaipur, while City Palace, Jantar Mantar, and Hawa Mahal are all concentrated within or around the old walled city.
A well-planned tour itinerary can ensure that you cover the notable landmarks in one day, avoiding most of the day being spent on the roads. Based on our experience arranging Jaipur sightseeing for travellers, the difference comes down to the starting times: reach Amer around 8:00–8:30 AM to enjoy cooler temperatures and better sightseeing, and have more time at the central-city monuments later.

Day 1
Jaipur Arrival & City Tour
Amer Fort

Start your Jaipur City Tour at Amer Fort. This is one place where you cannot rush. This complex has courtyards, gateways, palaces, temples, and decorated halls, including the famous Sheesh Mahal. Rajasthan Tourism describes Amer as a combination of Hindu and Mughal architectural influences constructed using sandstone and white marble.
The fort is situated on a hill overlooking Maota Lake, making approaching this place part of the experience.
In our experience, visitors arriving late find that they spend more time getting around than actually enjoying the architecture.
In addition, the morning light is much easier to work with for photography than harsh midday sunlight.
In order to explore the palace, make sure to allow around 2 to 2.5 hours instead of trying to finish it in 45 minutes.
Travel tip: Wear comfortable footwear. There is walking, and the palace complex includes slopes, courtyards, and uneven surfaces.
Jal Mahal Photo Stop

Jal Mahal is on the way out of Amer Fort, toward Jaipur. Visitors are not allowed inside the palace, and we usually recommend a quick stop here for the view of the lake and some photos.
This is one of the places where itinerary planning makes a real difference. There is little reason to spend an hour here when the main attraction is the palace’s exterior view from the lakeside.
Spend 20–30 minutes taking photographs and enjoy the view before heading towards the old city.
City Palace

Next, head into the historic Pink City for City Palace.
The City Palace complex was conceived by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II and later expanded by his successors. It combines Rajput and Mughal architectural elements and features courtyards, palace buildings, and museum collections.
For first-time visitors, this is one of the most worthwhile stops because you get more than an exterior view. The museum collection includes royal clothing, textiles, paintings, weapons, and other objects belonging to Jaipur’s former royal household.
Allow around 1 to 1.5 hours.
Don’t plan City Palace on the back of a heavy lunch. Walking through the complex in the afternoon heat can become tiring, especially from April to June.
If you are travelling with senior citizens or young children, make sure to inform your driver or tour coordinator beforehand so that the sightseeing pace can be adjusted.
Lunch in the Pink City
A one-day Jaipur itinerary needs a proper lunch break (Plan your lunch around 1:00 – 1:30)
Rather than travelling to a restaurant far away, staying around the old city or its nearby areas can save you valuable sightseeing time.
For travellers interested in Rajasthani food, this is a good opportunity to try dishes such as dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi, ker sangri and bajra-based preparations.
For international travellers, we normally suggest starting with moderate portions of local food because Rajasthani cuisine can be richer and spicier than expected.
Jantar Mantar

After lunch, walk or take a short drive to Jantar Mantar, located near City Palace.
This is not just another historic building. It is an astronomical observatory housing 19 astronomical instruments, including the enormous stone sundial. According to Rajasthan Tourism, Jantar Mantar, Jaipur, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The official tourism information currently lists visiting hours as 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with the last ticket issued at 6:30 PM.
Why we recommend a guide here
Without an explanation, many visitors look at the large instruments and move on without understanding what they were calculated to do.
With a knowledgeable guide, the visit becomes much more interesting because you can understand how the instruments were used to measure time and track celestial positions.
The official information notes that the observatory’s instruments were designed for astronomical observations and calculations.
Allow around 45–60 minutes.

Hawa Mahal

Now comes Jaipur’s most recognisable landmark: Hawa Mahal.
Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh constructed the five-storey Hawa Mahal in 1799. Its distinctive façade contains numerous small windows and jharokhas to allow royal women to observe street life without being seen.
One practical point that first-time visitors often miss is that the famous photograph is usually taken from outside, across the road.
You can also enter the monument, but if your priority is the iconic façade, you do not need to spend a long time inside.
For the classic Hawa Mahal photograph, avoid simply stopping your car directly in front of the building and taking a quick photograph through traffic.
Park safely and cross to the appropriate viewing area. Early afternoon can be busy, so patience helps.
Allow around 30–45 minutes.
